PM Manmohan Singh will launch the 3G services on December 11 in Delhi; Mumbai would get it later. Also, according to media reports state run telecom firm would launch mobile video surveillance. The two services would be merged into one and would be availed to facilitating better surveillance to Metro police personnel.
Mobile video surveillance added embedded with conventional CCTVs would be useful for better security-management. With the launch India would come in the map of 3G using countries. The decision has come one month before the process to offer 3G licenses to private firms. Communications and IT Minister A Raja has already said that the 3G auction would be completed by January 15.
He concluded that 3G operators would have to pay the required amount by January 31 next year. Reports say that in middle of this year the GOI had decided to ask for a global auction of radio spectrum for third-and fourth-generation (3G and 4G) wireless services. The government of India wishes to fetch around 400 billion rupees ($8.3 billion) from the auctions.
