The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has ordered its investigating arm, Director-General of Investigation and Registration (DGIR) to investigate the high profile alliance of Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines. Both the private airline companies had signed a code sharing agreement on Monday. Report says that the investigation is brought on to see whether the formation of alliance would turn into a monopoly. DGIR is ordered to submit the investigation report within 60 days.

The code-sharing deal between Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines includes a joint fuel management strategy to reduce expenses and operation of share flights. The chiefs of both the companies stated in a very optimistic tone that the alliance will offer greater convenience to passengers both in term of flight timings and pricing of tickets. The alliance has been formed to offer more efficient, improve revenues and provide seamless travel opportunities for their customers, said Naresh Goyel of Jet Airways.
