World's highest mountain, Mount Everest has been picked up to be one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. According to the organisers, Everest will face competition from 260 contenders short-listed from 222 countries including other famous mountain peaks, lakes and attractions such as Niagara Falls and Lake Superior between Canada and the United States. 
 
The organisers of the New Seven Wonders campaign has asked people to vote until July 7, this year. The campaign which began in 2007 has so far received 441 nominations from all round the globe. The new 222-list has been compiled by Swiss-based nonprofit foundation, led by Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber. The countries were listed on the basis of votes.
 
The panel of experts in nature, chaired by Federico Mayor, former chief of UNESCO, will make a selection of 21 finalists on July 7. After that, the fates of these finalists will be left at the discretion of people who will select the final seven through Internet, telephone and text messages. The process will continue till 2011.
 
While interacting with the media, spokeswoman of the campaign, Tia Viering informed that people from all over world have been invited extensively to accomplish the task of selecting the seven wonders of earth.
