Motorola has confirmed the launch of its handset, which uses Google’s Android OS as the platform, in September by means of a postcard invitational which features the Android OS' mascot.

Motorola’s proprietary "dumb-phone" platform has been hit severely due to the increase in the smart phones and especially so with recent releases and price-drops. Powered with the Android OS, Motorola will now be able to join its competitors in the smart phone market very soon and with very less effort.

Even though there had been an Android-focused section on the “MOTODEV" developer website of Motorola for a while, this postcard is the closest of all the official information that Motorola is ready with its first Android handset.

Images, which are supposed to be of Moto's new "Morrison" handset, has a T-Mobile G1-like form factor with the familiar slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the G1, the trackball has been replaced with a directional pad that is completely covered while the keyboard is put away. The front-face features a large, wide-format screen and what looks to be three touch-sensitive buttons.

Let us wait till Sep 10 to know the results.
