US based Motorola Incorporation has bagged a $90 million deal from the Indian state run telecommunications giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The deal will enable Motorola Inc to supply GSM Network equipments. Motorola after the deal remarked that the contract will help BSNL, which is the fourth largest wireless telecom firm in India, add 2.3 million subscribers in southern India.
Motorola has revealed that it will ship GSM network equipment to India and provide network services, including both software and hardware support, to BSNL under the agreement. It was a lack of infrastructure which had resulted in BSNL attracting fewer new users each month in comparison to Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel Vodafone Essar. According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, BSNL has 40.8 million mobile subscribers out of the total 261.1 million users in India. BSNL plans to add 33.5 million mobile lines for the year ending March 2009.
