Zimbabwe’s electoral commission has revealed that Morgan Tsvangirai won almost 48 percent of the votes beating Robert Mugabe who won 43 percent of the votes in the Zimbabwe Presidential elections. However, it is being speculated that a run-off is needed because Tsvangirai is 2 percent short of the 50 percent required vote.
Morgan Tsvangirai had earlier insisted that he had won an outright victory in the Presidential polls. Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has revealed that he has won the March 29 vote outright and has accused Mugabe, who has been 28 years in power of delaying results to rig victory. Tsvangirai has remarked that he would not want a run-off as Mugabe has been unleashing violence and death squads against Zimbabwean structures and people. However if Tsvangirai refuses to take part in a run-off then Mugabe will have to be declared a winner, according to Zimbabwe Election rules.
