An interim order has been passed on Saturday, May 03, 2008 to restrain Pakistani player Mohammad Yousuf from playing in the IPL. The Pakistani player is in a legal wrangle with Indian Cricket League (ICL) as the ICL has alleged that the player has breached their earlier contract with them to sign up for the Indian Premier League. Justice (Retd) Dr BP Saraf has passed the interim order restraining Yousuf from participating in IPL in any manner.
Mohammed Yousuf despite signing up for IPL was not picked up by any of the Indian Premier League franchise teams. The teams perhaps did not bid for Yousuf as the legal advisors of the Indian Cricket League had notified in writing before the players’ auction, that since they had filed a case against the player with an arbitration panel in Mumbai, he is not legally allowed to play in the IPL. Advocate for the Indian Cricket League, Hitesh Jain asserted that today’s order was a first of its kind in Indian sports and is significant for the IPL too.
