Pakistani batsman Mohammad Yousuf has terminated his contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) thereby paving the way for his return to national team. The prolific middle-order batsman informed that he has submitted a no-objection certificate from the ICL to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) human resources director Wasim Bari. It is now up the PCB to clear him for the international cricket, Yousuf added.
Confirming the acceptance of the letter, Bari said that the decision on Mohammad Yousuf will be taken by PCB chairman Ijaz Butt. The cricket board of Pakistan has earlier announced an amnesty for its player in ICL stating that the cricketers can return to international arena if they cut ties with the rebel league. Mohammad Yousuf has broken his ties with ICL with immediate effect as PCB's amnesty period is ending on May 31.
When contacted, Yousuf said that he is very keen to play for his country and is waiting for PCB's reply. PCB chairman Ijaz Butt hinted that the Mohammad Yousuf may be inducted in the Test team for the series against Sri Lanka in July. However, he informed that PCB will levy financial penalties on players who had joined the ICL. Before joining ICL, Mohammad Yousuf has scored over 9,000 ODI runs at an average of 43.63 and 6,770 Test runs at an average of 55.49. Playing for Pakistan, this sensational batsman has garnered 23 Test centuries.
