Delhi and its adjoining states were rocked by a low-intensity earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale on Saturday, September 6, 2008. So far there has been report of life and property loss. The quake took place at around 11.18 am in the morning and its epicentre is said to be located in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan.
As per an official from the Indian Meteorological Department, the tremors continued for around seven to eight seconds and were felt in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and adjoining region, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand. 'There are no reports of any damage or loss of life from any part of the country now,' the official said.
