The Union Home Ministry has appointed ML Kumawat as the new BSF chief.

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has got its new Director General (DG) in ML Kumawat. This announcement was made by the Union Home Ministry in the capital on September 17, 2008. An IPS officer of 1972 batch, Kumawat has been appointed as a successor to AK Mitra. The new DG will join his service by the end of September, 2008.
 
At present, ML Kumawat is holding the position of Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier, Kumawat served as the Additional Director General of BSF and the chief of Grey Hounds force of Andhra Pradesh police. This officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre was also the Joint Director in CBI. 

Besides earning laurels in several fields, the former CBI Joint Director also received the Presidents Police Medal for distinguished service in the year 1997. He also bears the honor of having the Police Medal of 1989 for exceptional service.
