Popular senior Bollywood actor, Mithun Chakraborty has been named the lifetime trustee of the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy. The Academy is based in Mumbai and is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke, who is regarded as the Father of Indian Cinema. The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy is also engaged in recognizing old talent in Indian film industry as well as boosting newcomers in the filmdom.
Other notable lifetime trustees of the Academy include trade union leader Santosh Singh Jain, former Maharashtra bureaucrat Govind Swaroop, filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani and so on. Since several years, Mithun Chakraborty has been associated with film employees' union. Presently, elaborate preparations are going on for the organization of the Dadasaheb Phalke Jayanti celebrations on 30th April as well as the Phalke Academy Awards presentation event.
