An exhibition of paintings by controversial artist MF Husain was vandalized by a group of miscreants on Sunday, August 24 in New Delhi. The venue of the exhibition was the lawns of the Constitution Club at New Delhi's Rafi Marg, where the miscreants damaged seven of Husain's paintings. Nobody, though, got hurt in the incident.

The three-day painting exhibition titled ‘Husain Art Summit’ was organized by a social activist group SAHMAT and was to conclude Sunday evening. The intention behind ‘Husain Art Summit’ was to put up a silent protest over the barring of Husain’s work from the ongoing India Art Summit at Pragati Maidan.

MK Raina, a prominent theatre personality and member of SAHMAT, said, 'Around 3.30 p.m. over 12 men with placards barged in and damaged the paintings. They broke the glass frames and tore off some of the pictures. The men left before the police could be called.' The organizers have now decided to extend the duration of the exhibition by another day. The police responded that the painting exhibition organizers had not taken permission.
