The sixth annual Mirchi Kaan Awards ceremony held in Mumbai on May 9, honoured several individuals and entities of advertising world for radio commercials. In this year's edition about 10 gold, 12 silver, and 40 bronze awards were given away in different categories. The Agency of the Year Award was bagged by McCann Erickson. The advertising agency has won a total of 21 awards, including four Golds for Chlormint Fresh Fills and Chlormint, five Silvers for Chlormint Fresh Fills and Chevrolet Aveo.
Another ad agency Leo Burnett has walked away with 14 awards while DDB Mudra won the ‘Crystal Award’ for the most exceptional radio commercial of the year. The ad agency has grabbed a total of eight awards. Other on the award winning list include Bates 141 (3 awards), Rediffusion Y&R(4), Pickle Advertising (2), O&M (5) and Publicis (4). This year there were 750 entries in several categories.
The award function was attended by several dignitaries of radio and advertising fraternity including Chintamani Rao of Times Global Broadcasting, Sonal Dabral of Bates 141, Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar of Redfussion Y&R, Prahlad Kakar, Rahul Jauhari of Pickle Advertising, Sandeep Lakhina of Starcom, Rajneesh Chaturvedi of MEC Access and others. Speaking on the occasion, Prasoon Joshi of McCann Erickson India said that Radio is a tough medium as because there is no dependence on special effects. Therefore, it is important that the presenter should say something catchy to garb the attention, he added.
