Min Bahadur Sherchan, who is 76 years old, has succeeded in winning the distinction of being the oldest citizen to scale world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Sherchan has broken the earlier record set by a 71-year-old Japanese man named Kat Katsusuke Yanagisawa, a school teacher, who climbed the Everest the previous year. It was on Sunday 25 May that Min Bahadur Sherchan reached the pinnacle of Mt. Everest.  
 
It was under the leadership of the World Summit Explorer Pvt. Ltd and initiation from the Senior Citizen Mt. Everest Expedition Nepal 2008 team that Min Bahadur Sherchan scaled the Everest. Sherchan was born in the year 1939 at Bhurung Tatopani of Myagdi in Nepal. Some other members of this expedition team were Bir Bahadur Gurung, Dharma Bir Rai and Pemba Dorje Sherpa, the advisor of the Expedition.  
 
An official at the Mountaineering Department of the Ministry of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ramesh Khatri informed that Min Bahadur Sherchan reached the top of Mt Everest on Sunday morning and is maintaining good health. He said that Sherchan was now gradually descending from the Everest and is scheduled to reach the base camp sometime on Monday.
