Microsoft has announced that it is killing off its Office Accounting software by November 16.
A Microsoft spokesperson said, "After evaluating the product over the past few years, we have determined that other Microsoft offerings, such as free templates in the Office system used with Excel and the Dynamics product, are able to meet our customers' needs."
The current version of Microsoft's Office productivity suite which is called Office Accounting 2009, provides all the details like templates, tools and other add-ons to support small-business accounting.
Intuit has also developed similar software, QuickBooks to provide activities in accounting.
According to the company press release, all the Office Accounting products like Office Accounting Express, Office Accounting Standard, Office Accounting Professional, Office Accounting Professional Plus and Small Business Accounting will be scrapped at a time.
However, the existing customers can continue to run the products during the support lifecycle. The other support services such as online sales from eBay and credit profile information from Equifax will be discontinued after December 15.
A company spokesperson said, "Existing customers will receive five years of mainstream support and five years of extended support."
"The Office Small Business Web site has links to free templates for small businesses, such as invoices, expenses, time sheets, budgets and more," the spokesperson added.
