Microsoft Inc and Research in motion announced on Monday, May 12, 2008 that instant messaging services and consumer e-mail services from Microsoft would be available on Blackberry mobiles from later this summer. The new Blackberry Bold and products in Blackberry 7000 and 8000 segment also announced on the same day that they will get the Windows Live services first, which will include both Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger.
The availability of Microsoft Live services clearly demonstrates that the Blackberry’s are not just meant for business messaging. Phil Holden, a Microsoft director for mobile services remarked that most business professionals also have a personal life, and this gives great access to consumer services. However despite the deal with Research in Motion, people won’t get Windows Live Services without the approval of their carriers. Currently Microsoft has 140 carrier relationships around the world regarding Windows Live on mobile devices.
