Microsoft announced on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 that it will offer cash incentives to people who use the company’s search engine. Microsoft’s Internet search market has been steadily declining, hence the internet and software giant has planned to launch the new programme called ‘Live Search Cashback’ to jump start it’s search engine. People who will now use the Microsoft search engine, to find and buy some products will be getting rebate from Microsoft.

Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft remarked at a recent advertising conference run by the company that this is a very big part of the $20 billion search market. He further added that some innovations in the business model of search, like Live Search Cashback will help drive that. The new programme is basically a marketing effort by Microsoft to promote its search service, which lags far behind those of Google and Yahoo in popularity. Analysts are however still split over whether the Live Search Cashback programme could provide Live Search with a significant boost.
