Jerry Yang CEO of Yahoo Inc. in his statement has said that a potential deal with software giant Microsoft is unlikely as Bill Gates is no longer interested in a full merger. Yang signaled that his company remained open to a potential deal, but said Microsoft had ruled out a merger for now.
Talking about who walked away from the deal he said that Yahoo did not walk away from the deal but Microsoft did. He opined that a combination with Microsoft would have had a "tremendous amount of power." Further, he opined that Microsoft is no longer interested in buying the company, and Yahoo is talking about other things and he definitely has to understand what Microsoft is proposing. He says that Microsoft clearly has an interest in Yahoo and he needs to understand more about that.
Earlier in late in January, Microsoft had offered $31 a share in a half-cash, half-stock bid, to buy Yahoo, which valued it at $44.6 billion, however Yahoo rejected the offer as the company felt that it was open to a deal but the offer was too low.
