The Indian market will soon get the world’s cheapest Windows-enabled laptop computer that will be jointly created by software giants, Microsoft Corp India and HCL Infosystems Ltd. For this project, a centre of excellence (CoE) will be set up for a customized solution framework in India. Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and CEO of HCL, confirmed this report saying that the Windows OS (operating system) will be introduced under the MiLeap brand of HCL land. The price of this laptop computer will be Rs 16,990.
Commenting about the MiLeap brand, the chairman and CEO of HCL said that this series got launched earlier this year. The launch of the cheapest laptop computer would be Microsoft Windows XP powered and that the MiLeap H series will have a GB HDD with broadband, he added. Kevin Turner, Microsoft Corp’s COO remarked that the CoE will have over 500 software professionals and will serve to create and deploy Microsoft technologies in various sectors like banking, telecom, defence, railways, etc.
