Earlier, people had to visit police stations to file their reports of stolen gadgets. These can now be found easily with the help of internet, using only software.

BPL unveiled a mobile tracking solution for GSM users in India, a little while back. Now, a software called Micro LNTS (Lost Notebook Tracking System), developed by Micro Technologies can now locate your stolen notebook via the internet. All a owner of the laptop needs to do is install the LNTS into their laptop, where it is hidden meaning it works in stealth mode. As soon as it is stolen, it connects to the internet so that it can be tracked. Not only is the recovery of the stolen notebook possible, LNTS also claims to deter the thief.

As soon as the laptop is stolen, the software starts to work in stealth mode hidden from the eyes of the thief. It connects itself to the internet. Subsequently it connects to the company's monitoring center and alerts about the whereabouts of the notebook when connected to the internet.

Apart from this, there are some important management tools, which include:

1. Sending out e-mails at regular intervals so that the notebook's activity can be tracked.
2. All the documents that contain vital information are hidden automatically.
3. As soon as the notebook is logged in, it sends intimation on mobile and e-mail.
4. It also gets the list of all the installed softwares on the notebook.
5. It remotely monitors the document or the URL that the user has specified.

However, as with everything this technology comes with a few drawbacks as well. If the thief formats the hard drive as soon as it is stolen, then the LNTS software will be deleted from the hard disk. Then, it makes it impossible to track the notebook's whereabouts. The LNTS software comes in LNTS-Elite and Premium models, costing Rs.600 and Rs.1500, respectively for the Elite and Premium versions.
