Swimming sensation Michael Phelps of United States won his 8th gold medal in Beijing Olympics when he won Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay final on Sunday, August 17. This time, however, he attained the feat with some assistance from fellow swimmers.  

 

Apart from Phelps, the US team comprised Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak, who won in a time of 3:29.34 at the National Aquatics Center. Together they broke the world record by 1.34 seconds.

 

The US swimmers’ team, who were the defending Olympic champions as well as the current world record holders, had an edge over other competitors right from the start till the end. The silver was clinched by the Australians, whereas the bronze went to the team from Japan comprising Miyashita Junichi, Kitajima Kosuke, Fujii Takuro and Sato Hisayoshi.
