The US popstar Michael Jackson has become a Muslim and changed his name to Mikaeel. According to media reports, the troubled popstar has converted to Islam in a ceremony where he pledged his allegiance to the holy Koran. The ceremony took place in his friend's house at Los Angles.  The 50-year-old singer adopted the new religion in presence of an Imam. The Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief.

 

Michael Jackson decided to become a Muslim while he was recording a song at the home of his friend. Jackson was asked to decide on a new Muslim name. The popstar choose the name 'Mikaeel' after rejecting another alternative name 'Mustafa'. Media reports claimed that Michael Jackson was convinced to adopt Islam by his producer and songwriter friends David Wharnsby and Phillip Bubal, both of whom had also embraced Islam earlier.

 

It is worth mentioning that only a few days back, the popstar was sued by an Arab Sheik for breaching contracts. Michael Jackson is likely to appear before London court regarding this issue. The new name 'Mikaeel' stands for one of Allah's angel. The US pop sensation has been in controversy since his acquittal from child-abuse case. Apart from these, he is reported to be suffering from financial crisis with huge amounts of debt, yet to be repaid.
