Mexican beauty queen Zuniga has been sent into custody for 40 days on charges of having links with Ciudad Juarez drug cartel leader. The 23-year-old beauty queen was arrested with drug cartel leader, Angel Orlando Garcia Urquizar and a group of heavily armed men on December 22. According to media reports, the arrested seven people were carrying 68,000 pounds in cash while traveling in two vehicles along the western state of Jalisco where the cops nabbed them.
Zuniga who was crowned 'Miss Sinaloa' in July has been ordered 40 days of detention. The detained men will be prosecuted for crimes relating to drug trafficking and transporting weapons, informed the attorney general. The Juarez cartel is reported to be one of the active drug and cocaine suppliers. The drug cartel is held responsible for smuggling up to 20 percent of all the cocaine consumed in the United States, for annual profits of 660 million dollars.
Drug trafficking and weapons smuggling crimes have been prevalent for many years. It is believed that terrorist outfits heavily depend on drug smuggling to procure arms and ammunitions. The recent growth in number of terrorist organisations has increased the scope of smuggling to unbearable extent. The outfits supply cocaine and other drugs to western smugglers who provide them arms in return.
