Mercedes Benz has launched the R-Class crossover to expand its portfolio in India. The vehicle comes with a price tag of Rs 58.79 lakh.
Currently, the company sells the C, E, S, GL and M Class vehicle range in India. The new model comes in the wake of a heavy competition in four-wheeler sector.
The model was showcased at the New York International Auto Show in March this year.
The 7-seater R-Class adds sedan like performance and it will open a new segment for the company, the company said in a statement.
The R-Class has a long wheel base R350 4MATIC and bears a 3498cc V6 petrol engine. There is also 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission system with the car. The vehicle encompasses bi-xenon headlamps and provides comfort driving options like steel spring suspension in front and AIRmatic system featuring self-levelling air suspension in the rear part.
“We are very optimistic about the R-Class as it fits right in place with our existing brands in the country. It comes in between the M-Class and the GL-Class and opens an entirely new segment," Mercedes Benz India Director said to the press.
