With a view to roll out its famed classic cars, Mercedes-Benz has inaugurated its first Indian assembly plant at Chakan near Pune on Tuesday (February 24). The Chakan manufacturing facility spreads over an area of 100 acres. According to official statement, the newly inaugurated plant was completed in just over a year from the date its construction commenced. The company claimed that the plant is one of the fastest green-field projects executed in India.
 
According to Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz India, Dr. (Ing) Wilfried Aulbur, the plant will mark the beginning of a new era for the company in India. The company will manufacture 5000 cars and 1200 commercial vehicle. As a result, about 500 people will get employment. The company has given special adherence to future expansion needs while developing the Chakan assembly plant.
 
Informing more about the plant, Aulbur said that the state-of-the-art assembly facility is equipped with latest technology and latest measurement technology like CMM machines, roller tester, high pressure, shower tester. The facility has been developed to ensure that the company can produce high-end cars. Mercedes-Benz India is also planning to install the first engineering team at the Chakan plant.
