The Food and Beverage administration of Beijing Olympic committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), Games Service Department have created a sort of menu catering to the myriad tastes of international guests. The Beijing Olympics, due to be held in August this year, are fast approaching, which has led the planners to identify food items which will accommodate the culinary tastes of the international visitors.

Representatives from over 200 countries across the globe will be present at the Beijing Olympics. Kang Yi, Director of the Food and Beverage administration under the Games Service Department of the BOCOG revealed that the planners had to think from the angle of ‘differences’, considering different cultural backgrounds, different countries, different customs and different eating habits to come up with suited arrangements.

The Olympic village cafeteria will serve food items and beverages under four broad headings, which will include ‘Chinese’, ‘Mediterranean’, ‘International’ and ‘Asian’. All western foods served in the cafeteria will be accompanied with nutritional labels. Merely 30 percent of the food served in the cafeteria will be of Chinese variety, with the majority of food items belonging to the western variety. The food served in the cafeteria will be under strict observation and will first be sent to the city food safety center before reaching the dining table, to prevent any uncalled for incident caused owing to eating.
