Vienna meeting of NSG (Nuclear Supplier's Group) could not reach to any agreeable point, but SS Menon does not seem bothered with that, and has kept his diplomatic visit continue. Soon after the NSG meeting at Vienna, he left for US to meet US Undersecretary of State William Burns. Interestingly, William Burns has substituted Nick Burns.
However, India has said that the visit was pre-planned and it has nothing to do with Vienna meeting outcome. The meeting will deal with the issues like, how to sell the India deal to the nuclear cartel when it meets again in Sep 4-5 to decide on the India-specific waiver. In Vienna, most of the countries favored for the deal and waiver to be given to India, however, some wanted strict prohibition on nuke test by India.
Commenting on Vienna outcome, Mr Menon said that there has been a narrowing down of differences between the various countries. It is quite a remarkable feat that 45 different sovereign nations should decide to have one point of view over any issue. He said that no NSG member was against giving India a special exemption.
