If all goes as per the plans of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, then one will soon see the holy city of Vrindavan don a new healthy appearance. On Wednesday, August 6, Mayawati laid out an array of development schemes for Vrindavan, with a total budget of Rs 250 Crore. These pertain to healthcare, housing, power and improvement as well as construction of roads.

The UP Chief Minister stated that the idea behind the development schemes is to ‘restore the pride of the temple town’ as well as assist the thousands of devotees and tourists who come here the whole year round. The proposed development schemes, therefore, comprise setting up of houses for the urban poor, shelter home for widows and destitute women and betterment of Vrindavan’s Parikrama Marg.

There is also a proposal to set up a Rs 21 crore bridge in Vrindavan. Also a primary sub station of 132 MW and 132 KV transmission line will be built for improving the power supply condition in the region and adjoining areas. Mayawati informed that the agencies that have been handed these development projects at Vrindavan have been instructed to complete them within a year’s time. A 100-bed hospital will also be constructed.
