Maruti Suzuki India has announced to come up with indigenous compact car in India by 2010-11. Report says that a large number of engineers and technocrats of the company are engaged in Gurgaon centre to design and manufacture this fully-indigenised passenger car from the Maruti. The company is also supposed to recruit 1000 engineers to design the latest car.
According to Maruti's managing executive officer (production) MM Singh, the company has taken special drive to reduce the production cost. Maruti has gone for a 5% across-the-board cut in production costs for all its cars to tide over the economic meltdown. The company is also partnering with vendors to bring down supplier costs significantly.
The Gurgaon unit of the company has the capability of producing 7 lakh cars while Manesar plant can roll out 2.4 units in a year. The company is expecting to sell one million cars in the domestic market and attain an export target of 2 lakh units by 2010-11. The company also announced to export 1 lakh units of recently launched Maruti A-Star to European markets apart from domestic distribution.
