58 year old veteran Marathi film and television actor, Vihang Nayak died in a car accident today (Monday, June 09, 2008) at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The details of the accident are not completely known as yet, though there was no collision with another vehicle. The fatal accident took place near Kalamboli on the expressway. The seasoned actor was on his way to Baramati in Pune district to shoot for leading Marathi film director Sanjay Surkar’s untitled film.
 
Nayak was a civil engineer, working for a private firm till recently. He forayed into acting with his role in Govind Nihalani’s ‘Aakrosh’ (1980). Another well known and critically acclaimed film in which Nayak worked is ‘God Only Knows’. Vihang Nayak is a well known father-figure in Marathi households, owing to his popular ongoing Marathi TV serial ‘Awaghachi Sansar’. The deceased actor was also a well known name on Mumbai’s English theatre scene. Vihang was also working in Pritish Nandy Communication’s forthcoming film ‘Ugly aur Pagli’.
