Noted actor Manoj Kumar has been conferred with Phalke Ratna Award in Mumbai on Monday (May 4). The award ceremony was organized to commemorate the 140th birth anniversary of the legendary filmmaker Dadasaheb Phalke. Apart from Manoj Kumar, actor Prithviraj Kapoor was posthumously honoured with Phalke Kalpataru Award. Film industry's living legend singer Shamshad Begum received the Phalke Golden Singer Award while Ashutosh Gowariker bagged the Phalke Memorable Commercial Film Award.

 

Veteran producer Surinder Kapoor, the father of Anil and Sanjay Kapoor was felicitated with the LV Prasad - Phalke lifetime achievement award. Noted yesteryear actor Shammi Kapoor grabbed the Phalke Legend Actor Award. However, the actor could not come down to receive the award because of his ill health. Himesh Reshammiya's father Vipin Reshammiya was also honoured by Dadasaheb Phalke Academy for his contribution as musician and film producer.

 

Speaking to media after getting the award, the 71-year-old Major Kumar said that it is matter of pride for him. He conveyed his gratitude towards the Academy for nominating him for the prestigious award. Randhir Kapoor, who received the Phalke award on behalf of his grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor, said that he feels greatly honoured to receive the award for his grandfather.
