Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has mentioned that he is in favour of "practical, pragmatic solutions" for the Jammu & Kashmir issues and he wishes to have a dialogue with the separatist Hurriyat Conference.
Manmohan Songh, while citing that he will visit the disputed state soon for the inauguration of a railway project, also mentioned that he would not “start negotiations or to engage in negotiations” himself.
"I have always maintained that it is our sincere desire to engage all sections of political opinion in Jammu and Kashmir to find practical, pragmatic solutions to the problems facing the state”.
"I recognize that there are some political groups who are outside the mainstream. We would like them also to engage in a constructive dialogue with us”.
"I have already had two or three meetings with the Hurriyat people. They promised to come back with specific suggestions. I am still waiting for them," he said.
Manmohan Singh will be inaugurating the 12-km railway line, which connects Anantnag and Qazigund. The inauguration had been scheduled for Oct 18 but had been put off due to the non-availability of Mamata Banerjee.
