The controversies surrounding the Mangalore pub attack by the Sriram Sene are not going to settle down so quickly. Adding to the list of related events, Mangalore Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu has now dragged Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury to court.

 

In the latest development Hosabettu has filed a criminal case against Ms Chowdhury for allegedly glorifying what he calls isolated incidents and generalizing the city as Talibanised. The case  will come up for hearing on Tuesday (17th February).

 

However, in her response Ms Chowdhury said that, allegations being made against her were part of a political conspiracy to divert attention from the actual issue of attacks on women by lumpen elements trying to impose fundamentalist ideologies. The case was reportedly lodged after Chowdhury did not apologize for her statements about Mangaloreans in the three-day deadline given to her.
