The spearhead of Singur protest Mamata Banerjee has said that big private players spell disaster for small retailers. She said that she has been opposing the entry of big retail players in India. According to reports, small retailers in Singur are holding a protest rally today, and Mamata is scheduled to attend that. This fire-brand leader who has already made Tata's to think of other site for Nano Project, seems to start another front for herself now. Incidentally, here she might meet with her rival CPI (M), which too is against entry of MNC retailers.
On the other hand, the site in Singur is still not calm. According to Tata sources in Kolkata, conditions are still not conducive at Singur to resume work. The source informed that there has continuously been assessment of the situation, so that work could be started. The perpetual sit-in by Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made many workers to leave the place too. Mamata said that she was agreeable to talks but the dharna would continue. She firmly said that negotiation and agitation can go together, and sit-in will continue till farmers are not given back their 400 acres of land.
