Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, while presenting the rail budget for 2009-10 in parliament on Friday, said that all railway zones have been instructed for ensuring the availability of 'Janata Khana' - national and regional cuisines - in trains.
"National and regional cuisines will be introduced and priority would be given to provision of good quality food, drinking water and toilet facilities and ensure cleanliness on trains and stations," Banerjee said.
She also added that railways would will a comprehensive policy, which includes strict monitoring mechanisms, for the ensuring that these decisions are being implemented.
Mamata Banerjee’s railway budget has earmarked Rs.1,102 crore for improving passenger amenities without hiking the fares.
