Soon after Anwar Ibrahim rejoined the Malaysian parliament on Thursday, August 28 after a decade long absence, he came at blows with the government he vows to oust, leading a walkout of the opposition.

Anwar Ibrahim once happened to be the protégé of the ex-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, but was expelled from office on allegations of sodomy and corruption. Ibrahim maintains that these accusations were part of a controversy to destroy his career.

Upon returning to the parliament and being sworn-in as the leader of the opposition, Anwar Ibrahim said, 'I feel vindicated. I feel great that I am back.' This has transpired just a day before the government was planning to introduce its 2009 budget that is widely expected to contain populist spending measures.

Upon his return to parliament a decade later, Ibrahim has received support from the largest number of opposition MPs in the history of Malaysia for expelling the Barisan Nasional coalition that has ruled the country for almost half a century now. Anwar simultaneously must fight new sodomy charges, which he says are politically motivated.
