AK Lal, a major general of the Indian Army, has been sacked on charges of molesting a young woman officer Captain Neha Rawat, while teaching yoga to her. Lal, until recently, was heading a frontier infantry unit in Jammu and Kashmir. He was dismissed on service after a general court martial (GCM) on grounds of molesting female officer Rawat. The GCM concluded on Saturday, September 12, 2008 at Punjab's Batinda military station.

It was Lt Gen RS Sujlana, the commanding officer of 10 Corps, who presided over the GCM. The verdict of the GCM, however, still awaits the final green signal from the Chief of Army Staff. It is expected to reach the New Delhi army headquarters by next week. The Indian army has remarked that this was the most stringent punishment meted out by GCM to an attending Major General. The allegations slapped by Captain Neha Rawat on Maj Gen have been refuted by his wife and daughter.
