Mahindra off-roader Thar- a jeep-like SUV will be launched in December, sources confirmed. The vehicle was launched at the Performance Autocar Show in Mumbai last month.
The Thar SUV is expected to come with 2.5 litre diesel engine, which generates 105 bhp power at 3800 rpm, powered by a 4 cylinder, a leaf-spring suspension at the rear side, has 5 speed gearbox along with manual transmission, 5 speed manual, Borg Warner- manual shift and has 2 speed gear reduction - high 1.0:1 low 2.48:1.
The vehicle will first be launched in the Kerala and Rajasthan markets by the end of 2010. The Thar concept was revealed by the company at Bologna Motor Show.
The Thar SUV is expected to come priced at around Rs. 6 - 8 lakhs in India, while it is sold in South Africa at around Rs 9.5-10 lakhs. The two seater vehicle comes in arctic white, mist silver, black and toreadorred.
