The board of Mahindra Satyam, which had been appointed by government, has won the ‘Dataquest Person of the Year’ award, keeping in view of the steps adopted by it to rise above the biggest corporate fraud India had ever seen.

The Mahindra Satyam board chairman, Kiran Karnik, received the award from publishing house CyberMedia, on behalf of the board.

"The information technology industry is happy to leave 2008-09 behind," Pradeep Gupta, chairman of the CyberMedia, said during the awards ceremony which was held at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi on Thursday night.

"It was a year of turmoil, global downturn, slowdown in the Indian market and the Satyam saga. The biggest surprise to us was the slowdown in the domestic market, compared with the continued growth in services exports."

Wipro chairman Azim Premji was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award, whereas Arvind Rao of OnMobile received the Pathbreaker of the Year. The awards were presented under 16 categories.

Tata Consultancy, Hewlett Packard, NIIT, Germany's SAP, Cisco, IBM, Genpact, Nokia, HCL Infosystems and vCustomer were the other corporate awardees in the 17th year of its institution.
