Bollywood music fraternity and producers are divided due to Mahesh’s adamant statements related to equal profit sharing between musicians and producers.

Earlier this year, Mahesh Bhatt’s statement created a fury among the Bollywood producers, musicians and composers.

He adds, “composers and singers make millions by performing on hit songs by way of live shows".

Mahesh Bhatt also posted on Twitter, “A wrong perception has been built up, giving an impression that composers do not make money from a hit song. The fact is that the composers and singers make millions by performing on hit songs by way of live shows.”

Bhatt’s statement created a controversy amongst various celebrities like Javed Akthar, Aamir Khan and Sonu Niigam and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Javed Akthar replies to Mahesh, “No one is asking for a penny from the film's profit. We are asking for our rights and dignity.”

The music industry is demanding for a 50-50 profit sharing, while the producers are resisting the idea, especially Mahesh Bhatt.

Music industry members have also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. They have proposed amendments to the Copyright Act for seeking a solution.
