The imposing statue of Mahatma Gandhi has reached in Leicester, UK. This statue will be unveiled on the 26th of July, 2009 on a very busy road which passes through the Asian business and cultural hub.
 
Leicester, which is located in the east Midlands, has lots of population belonging to India origin. Even though the city council had received a mass opposition from the local community, it cleared the proposal put forward by Samanwaya Pariwar, a local charity organization, for installing the statue of Gandhiji.
 
The statue of Mahatma Gandhi is made of bronze and is about 7.5 feet. The statue depicts Gandhiji walking with the stick. The Gandhi statue has been created by a Kolkata based sculptor called Gautam Pal and was shipped to Britain very recently.
 
Till the opening of the statue on 26th July, the statue which is now located near Belgrave Road and Donaldson Road will be given tight protection by means of wooden fence and a tarpaulin.
 
Jitendra Acharya, who is the spokesperson of Samanwaya Pariwar, said that he is very delighted and ecstatic after receiving the statue of Gandhiji. He said that it is now stored in a Leicester warehouse and will be installed as early as possible.
