The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi has threatened to pull out from UPA if the government does not take any step to stop the killings of Lankan Tamil by the Sri Lankan army. The Lankan army in their mission to combat LTTE has killed a large number of Tamils in Sri Lanka. In last couple of months, LTTE has increased its activities in the island nation so the government has launched massive army operation to tackle them.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister seemed to be annoyed with centre as he said that if the government does intervene in this matter DMK will withdraw its support from UPA. This was said in a massive public meeting held in Chennai on October 7, 2008.The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is upset with Sri Lanka's role and feels that India should protest this. Karunanidhi wants that India should summon Sri Lankan High Commissioner and condemn the genocide of Tamil minority in Sri Lanka.

He also stressed that the government should covey the massage that Lankan navy force is killing innocent Indian fishermen who have nothing to do with the ethnic clash. However, Prime Minister has assured him of intervention and promised to fulfill Karunanidhi 's wishes. Besides M Karunanidhi, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha also wants that the massacre in the island nation should be stopped immediately.
