In order to express his thanks to colleagues who worked with him during his days in film-industry, actor-turned-politician M Karunanidhi, who is presently the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, gifted them Rs 1.8 million from his personal money. The TN CM had earned the money he distributed by writing the story and dialogues of the Tamil film 'Uliyin Osai' (Sounds of Chisels).

M Karunanidhi gifted the money to his colleagues to celebrate the birth centenary of former chief minister and DMK founder CN Annadurai. On the occasion, the Tamil Nadu chief minister said the people should treat Annadurai as South India's Mahatma Gandhi. Khushboo, directors Bharti Raja and Ramanarayanan and many others from the film fraternity paid reverence to the chief minister.
