The Central Zoo Authority of India has selected Lucknow zoo along with other 57 zoos of the country to connect them with the zoos worldwide. The selected zoos will be connected globally through a software called Zooligical Information Management System (ZIMS). The connected zoos will be able to share information regarding animal management and conservation. The Information network of Central Zoo Authority will have access to information on nearly two million animals in various zoos of the world.
According to the Director of Lucknow zoo, Renu Singh, the implementation of ZIMS for connecting the zoos globally will benefit the zoo authorities immensely. Because of the free flow of information among different zoos, any spare animal can be transferred to other zoos. It will also enable the Lucknow zoo to expand its animal research and conservation activities. Besides these, zoos all over the world will be able to share the information of discovering new species of animal through ZIMS.
