Lucas Glover of the US has won the 109th US Open Golf Title, while Tiger Woods finished sixth. The unlikely major champion, Glover, said that he played well under pressure and he was happy. Phil Mickelson finished runner-up for a record fifth time. This is the last event for Mickelson, a three-time major champion, as his wife Amy would begin breast cancer treatment next month.
Glover struggled at Bethpage Black, but hung on to end at 72 holes on four-under par 276 to score a two-stroke win over Mickelson. World No. 1 Tiger Woods scored four birdies and three bogeys in a final round 69 to end on level par 280. He failed in his attempt to win 15th major title and to become the first man to defend all the four major titles.

Glover’s previous PGA title came at the 2005 Disney Classic and his best finish in 11 major starts was a share of the 20th spot at the Masters in 2007. David Duval of the US finished in top ten for the first time since 2002. He has not won in eight years after winning the British Open in 2001.

Brisk winds and tricky pin placements made the course difficult to negotiate. There were heavy rains on Thursday and Saturday making the course unplayable and pushing the finish to Monday.
