As per the reports of Sri Lankan arm forces, LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran has been killed in the island’s north on Monday (May 18). Military sources informed that the Prabhakaran was shot dead while he was trying to escape the war zone. The 54-year-old rebel leader was moving in a convoy of a van and an ambulance when the military opened fire in an isolated strip of Mullaitivu district.
Earlier the Lankan forces have recovered the dead bodies of four leaders of the rebel outfit, including Prabhakaran's son Charles Anthony. Prabhakaran's son was the head of the IT department of LTTE. Other slain LTTE leaders include Balasingham Nadesan, the head of the political wing, Seevaratnam Puleedevan, and S Ramesh, the separatists' eastern leader.
Meanwhile reports are on that the chief of LTTE’s intelligence wing, Pottu Amman has also been killed. LTTE on Sunday (May 17) dramatically called off its decade-long armed struggle.
