In a major decision to conceptualize weapon systems developed by DRDO for commercial production, heavy engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will set up a major research facility. This facility will be complementary to the DRDO not its parallel, L&T Board Member M V Kotwal told the media.

 

He said that the project will be started as soon as the government gives its nod to this. He also clarified that L&T is ready for investment in this research facility.

 

Elaborating on the research facility he said that, DRDO has got a valuable role if it restricts to real cutting edge high-end technologies, which India is yet to acquire. He suggested that the premier defence research agency should look at creating front-end technologies, which requires large investments.

 

Mr Kotwal further added that, L&T would concentrate on applying the high-end technologies developed by DRDO. He hoped that this role of L&T would save DRDO from wasting its time in applying these technologies which can be taken up efficiently by L&T.
