Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has formed a joint venture (JV) with European aerospace and military equipment maker EADS to develop high-tech defence electronics in Pune. According to a joint statement of L&T and EADS, the new joint venture entity will focus on developing electronic warfare, radar, military avionics and mobile systems for military applications.
According to chairman and managing director of L&T, A M Naik, the products developed by the new company will not only be available to Indian market but will also cater to global demand. Meanwhile, nothing has been disclosed about the financial details of the new entity. Naik is of the view that Indian joint venture will provide the armed forces with locally produced high-tech equipment and assured life-time support.
The defence electronics wing of EADS provides solutions for the armed forces ranging from sensors, secure networks for aircraft and missiles to service and support systems. Commenting on the new deal with L&T, the chief executive of EADS Defence and Security, Stefan Zoller said that the alliance with Indian engineering giant will allow the company to expand its industrial footprint in the country. Zoller stated that EADS wishes to explore the fast growing Indian defence and security market.
