A new study conducted by an Indian America found out that shedding those extra fats can be beneficial for those who suffer from kidney diseases.
It has already been proved that losing weight can be helpful for improving the control over medical conditions like diabetes, lower blood pressure as well as higher cholesterol levels. Losing weight can also benefit those two suffer from cardiac problems.
Sankar Navaneethan of the Cleveland Clinic, who did his MBBS from Madras Medical College, and his colleagues analysed data from 13 studies that assessed the impact of diet, exercise, and surgical procedures on kidney function.
According to the study, people who lose weight by following a strict diet and regular exercises can help in the reduction of proteinuria. (Proteinuria is a condition where the excretion of urine exceeds the normal level.) The study also proved that natural loss of weight can also help in preventing the additional decline in kidney function in obese patients with kidney disease.
The study also showed that the filtration rate of kidneys in people who are obese can be brought to the normal level by means of surgery.
But the authors have mentioned that even though the study was able to prove that weight loss can be beneficial for kidney, the study is not a comprehensive one.
Additional high-quality long-term studies on this topic are needed, they said.
These findings will appear in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN).
