Shiv Sena leader and editor of ‘Saamna’ Mr Bal Thackeray has condemned the attack on Mr Kumar Ketkar, editor of Loksatta. Earlier on Friday Ketkar was attacked at his house in Thane for his editorial. Thackeray said that Loksatta editorial was not against Shivaji and Ketkar just wanted to show his opposition on the erection of 309 feet statue of the Maratha warrior in the Marine Drive on the shore of Arabian Sea in Mumbai.
Kumara Ketkar earlier in his editorial had written that government’s decision seems to reveal that it does not have any problem and criticized for the spending the money on such establishments. Bal Thackeray also said that what all Ketkar wanted was the appropriate utilization of public money. He said that he was set aback by the act. People protesting against him did not try to read the gist of the editorial. He condemned the attack which according to him was carried out by the members of the Nationalist Congress Party under the guise of Shivaji Brigade.
At the same time Thackeray has asked Ketkar to come forward and rebut the charges and clarify his stand on the statues of leaders in the country. He asked to Ketkar that why he did not protest against a big number of statues of Nehru and Gandhi erected widely in the country.
